Being a marriage therapist sometimes requires giving the couple some hard-to-hear, but constructive, advice. A few examples are:
- You need to first straighten out your own problems before you can ever begin to tackle your relationship problems.
- Focus on your relationship. Give up on being right. And recognizing that does not make you wrong!
- If you think you can still be friendly with the person you’ve had an affair while you’re going through marriage counseling, I can guarantee you won’t save your marriage.
- You can’t continue punishing your spouse every day for having had an affair. You think you can forgive? – Do it! You think you can’t? – Move on.
