Damaging Assumptions We Make in Our Relationships

We all do it, we assume things about our partner. Ashley Thorn, a licensed marriage and family therapist, has put together a list of the most destructive assumptions we make. Some include:

  1. “You’d know what I’m thinking if you loved me.” This is impossible. No matter how much someone loves you, he or she can’t read your mind.
  2. “We’d be better if our sex life was better.” Sex is important to the relationship, but odds are, other problems exist.
  3. “If you’d just do A, B, and C, everything would be fine.” By saying this, you are more focused on your needs, and not on working together to fix the problem.
