3 Things to Stop Telling the Clinically Depressed
Not every person is able to deal with life’s hardships in a proactive manner. For those with clinical depression that task is many times harder, especially when family members or friends thoughtlessly say the following three things:
- “Get over it.” – Dismissing their feelings in such an unkind way is not helpful. Instead, try being patient and understanding.
- “You don’t need those antidepressants.” – Depression is more than feeling down, it can be a serious chemical imbalance that has to be treated with medication.
- “You’re not depressed.” – A depressed person might be happy at times, but when sadness hits, it’s very difficult for them to recover from that.
