Berries For The Brain

Researchers from Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston recently found that eating blueberries and strawberries regularly seems to help protect the brain from the effects of aging. Over 16,000 participants, all over the age of 70, were studied in the long-running U.S. Nurses’ Health Study.  Results found that women who ate more than one half-cup serving of blueberries or a one-cup serving of strawberries per week had a 2.5 year delay in cognitive aging. Berries contain anthocyanidin, an antioxidant that can cross the blood-brain barrier and benefit activity in the brain areas responsible for memory and learning.
