Berry Good News
There’s good news for women who enjoy eating strawberries and blueberries. The Nurses’ Health Study II recently reported that women who frequently included strawberries or blueberries in their diet were able to cut their risk of heart attack by 32% compared to participants who ate berries once a month or less. Researchers believe that the reason may be that the berries contain anthocyanins. These compounds may help dilate the arteries and counter plaque build-up. Dr. Andrew Weil believes that eating blueberries or strawberries is a good goal, but he recommends that individuals buy only organic berries in order to reduce the risk of ingesting pesticides.
