Bipolar Is Not a New Word for “Just Darn Unpleasant”
The term “bipolar” is not slang for bothersome or disagreeable. It is not a term to be tossed around to describe annoying or demanding people. Bipolar is a diagnosis; it’s a disorder that 4 percent of the population deals with, and only half are being adequately treated. Though many sufferers are highly functional, loving productive people, many struggle with the meds, moods, and anxiety that accompany the disease. There is no cure. Bipolar disorder is serious and no laughing matter. To refer to unlikable people as bipolar hurts those who daily manage a trying and ongoing condition.
