During the study, participants reported their reactions to a guided mental imagery task that asked them to focus on a positive social memory. They were encouraged to use all their senses, analyzing what the memory meant to them and enjoying the positive feelings.
Researchers found that the participants experienced an increase in feelings of social safeness. They postulated that this might be a practical and effective way to boost the mood of individuals that suffer from anxiety or depression.
