“Popcorn brain” is a term used to describe the rapid succession of thoughts a person has while tweeting, texting, posting, sharing, and whatever else our digital universe allows us to do. Conversely, life in the non-digital world can seem incredibly boring. Studies have shown that in extreme cases, like internet addiction, actual changes to the brain appear on scans. Some experts have suggested that being engaged in constant digital commotion is a new type of reflection although they liken it to “thinking out loud.” If you are concerned about slowing down and shutting out the digital noise around you – even temporarily – consider jogging, walking, or spending some time at the pool.
