CBT for Patients with Epilepsy and Depression

Recent research review seems to indicate that CBT may be an effective treatment for depression in Epilepsy patients. The literature review published in Epilepsia, investigated how well cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) treats epilepsy sufferers. The review examined both randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and case series. Due to the relatively small number of studies, more research will be required but after analyzing the results of 14 13 CBT trials, 6 of which were RCTs and 7 were case series, half (3 of 6) of the RCTS indicated positive effects of CBT on depression. A review of content also disclosed that the effective RCTs in the studies specifically tailored CBT for depression improvement.
