CBT plus Medication is Effective for Treatment Resistant Depression

According to newly published research, cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) used in conjunction with traditional treatment has been shown to be effective for reducing depression and improving the quality of life in patients diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression. Although medication is often used as a first-line treatment for depression, studies show that only 30 percent of patients fully respond to anti-depressants. In the recently conducted study, those patients who received CBT along with other types of treatment, including medication, were more likely to experience remission and experienced fewer symptoms of anxiety and panic. Furthermore, these improvements were maintained after one year.
