The Connection Between Emotions of Parents and Children

Research shows that children learn from parents about their emotions and how to express them. Therefore, whether parents realize it or not, they are a major influence in their child’s emotional development.

At the University of Georgia, researchers studied Supportive Emotional Parenting (SEP). This study determined whether this practice affected the emotional regulation of children. As a result, they learned that a parent’s response greatly impacts the emotions of their children. Not to mention the degree to which their child reacted emotionally to situations.
