Do Diet Sodas Cause Diabetes?
Copious amounts of sugar isn’t good for you, but neither is copious amounts of chemical-based sugar replacements. A recent Israeli study suggests that consumers consider the connection between diet soda’s artificial sweeteners with metabolic syndrome. The syndrome is a combination of conditions that severely increase the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. The 10-week study of mice revealed that artificial sweeteners appear to disrupt the collection of bacteria in the digestive tract, contributing to the obesity epidemic and rising rates of type 2 diabetes. The Israeli research leader noted, artificially sweetened “diet” food and drinks actually support obesity and even develop "the very disorders they were designed to prevent."
