How Exercise Affects Memory
We know that aerobic exercise improves the memory, but recent research from Georgia Tech shows that resistance training also helps. They invited healthy young adults to participate in the study, some as the control group and others who would be active. They showed 90 photos to both groups, and had everyone sit at leg extension machines. Half of them did 50 extensions per leg at their maximum effort. The other half just sat still, with a volunteer coming by and passively raising their legs. The next day, the participants were shown 180 photos, half of which were the ones shown the day before. Those who exercised recognized 60%, whereas those who didn’t recognized 50%.
