Insomnia Treatment With Cognitive Behavior Therapy Can Ease Depression Symptoms

Insomnia and depression often go hand-in-hand, with insomnia being either a symptom or a causative factor. A new study has also found that the same can be true for the treatment of depression. When cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), a common treatment for depression, was combined with insomnia treatment, the results were encouraging.

The study participants showed significantly reduced problems with insomnia, anxiety, and depression for at least six months. Additionally, this treatment was conducted via computer software, and yet, proved just as effective as face-to-face therapy. These findings will enable a more widespread and cost-effective distribution of this treatment.
