Is Deer Antler Velvet Worthwhile?

Supposedly, Ray Lewis, a linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens, used a spray containing an extract of deer antler velvet to help repair a torn triceps muscle. However, it contains a substance banned by the NFL. Lewis denies using the spray, and Ravens’ management contends that Lewis has passed all drug tests. Marketing claims for deer antler velvet state that it can be used to increase strength, boost the immune system, and reduce stress as well as improve athletic ability, reduce signs of aging, and treat a variety of ills such as high blood pressure, migraine headaches, high cholesterol, and may other problems. There are no scientific studies or data to corroborate such claims.
