‘Marriage Sabbaticals’ Improve Struggling Relationship

According to Marriage and Family Therapist Gracie Landes, “A marriage sabbatical is, you take some structured time off to work on yourself, to work on the marriage so that you can decide to be together, decide to be apart, and really make a clean decision.” Many therapists believe the sabbatical idea is a good one. Still, key ideas must be at play, for the sabbatical to work. Couples must see the break as separate vacations from the relationship, meant to refresh and renew energy. Couples must set up regular time to communicate and work on the marriage. The sabbatical isn’t meant to be an escape, just a rest from the everyday pressures of marriage.
