Mindful Ways to Deal with Unpleasant Feelings

When we experience something pleasant, it’s easy to be mindful, accept it and stay in the moment. However, the matter is quite different with an unpleasant experience.

What can you do then?

  1. Don’t bypass your immediate reaction, try staying with it.
  2. Allow yourself to feel rejection toward your feelings.
  3. Observe your feelings without judging.
  4. Honor your feelings and let them reveal why they’re there.
  5. Find the balance of how long to stay with an unpleasant feeling.
  6. Be flexible in how you deal with each feeling.
  7. Don’t expect too much of yourself – you’re only human.
  8. Accept help and allow yourself to be guided.
