Mindfulness and Our Genes

It turns out that our bodies positively respond to mindfulness activities at the most basic, genetic levels.

Researchers analyzed eighteen studies that comprised 846 participants. The object was to learn more about how activities like yoga and meditation benefit our bodies. They found that stressed “fight-or-flight” thinking releases certain molecules. Thes molecules control aspects of our genes negatively.  When we practice mindfulness, production of those molecules decreases. Thus, the pattern is reversed.
