Mindfulness to Head Off High Blood Pressure
Mindfulness and stress relief are close companions. Focusing on the present could help people who are at risk for hypertension. According to Kent State researchers, borderline high blood pressure responds to weekly sessions of mindfulness meditation practices. The data centers around 56 men and women about 50 years old with prehypertension. Engaged in eight weeks of sessions of mindfulness training and compared to a group receiving relaxation advice and activities, mindfulness participants had a more significant drop in blood pressure. Reductions were “potentially large enough to lead to reductions in the risk of heart attack or stroke.”
