Narcissism a Mask for Depression?
The overuse of the term “narcissism” is distracting people in general from one of its most damaging consequences: depression. Only some 1% of the population falls into the clinical category of narcissism. Often, they are on an emotional seesaw – excessively high highs countered by extreme lows. Why is that?
For a narcissist, loss can be a very difficult thing to handle. It suggests that you’re weak, that you can’t handle life’s ups and downs.
Some narcissist are just arrogant and they don’t find that problematic. When confronted with their behavior, they fight back. But some, “depressive” narcissists, wither under the pressure.
So, is a fragile self the true understanding of narcissism?
