Parental Strategies When Adult Children Have Problems

A new University of Michigan study reveals how parents of adult children are affected by their offsprings’ struggle with problems. The study results show that the mental health of these parents was often significantly affected by interacting with their troubled children.

The study examined particularly two different types of situations, with which the adult children had to content – problems with physical and mental health, and challenges due to their lifestyle or behavioral problems. It appears that dealing with children who had physical or mental issues caused a more immediate reaction in the cortisol levels of the parents, than interacting with children who struggled with lifestyle or behavioral issues.
