Processing Negative Emotions

When we have a terrible day (and we all have them from time to time), it is natural to want to get home as soon as possible, surround ourselves with our most comfortable habits, and begin processing our emotional experience. While this is a natural and healthy activity, it can quickly degenerate into the quintessential pity party, in which we imagine ourselves to be the victim of some horrible tragedy and dismal fate.  Lingering in self-pity is not helpful, and only fuels our feelings of indignation towards life.  It is important to process negative emotions in a healthy way so that we can move through them and not dwell on life’s unpleasant experiences.
