Depression is so powerfully magnetic because it destroys your tools for breaking free. You feel shame knowing you’re not living up to the idea you have of yourself, but you don’t have the energy to get better.
How can you explain what you’re going through to others? With damaged self-esteem, the possibility of failure is too painful. You start to avoid responsibilities altogether.
You can fight the pull by remembering that your depression isn’t your fault. Do a cost-benefit analysis. If a project is worth completing, it’s easier to fight low energy. Break the big picture down into manageable steps. Most importantly, seek support—it’s not easy getting out on your own.
