Sunshine Vitamin May Help Heart Health

Vitamin D, often called the Sunshine Vitamin because the body can absorb it through the sun’s ultraviolet rays, has long been associated with bone health. Children who suffer from a lack of vitamin D may develop rickets. New evidence now indicates that vitamin D is also essential for good heart health. A recent study of 10,000 individuals in Copenhagen, Denmark provided evidence that vitamin D deficiency may result in a higher risk of ischemic heart disease and increased blood pressure. Ischemic heart disease covers heart attack, coronary arteriosclerosis and angina. These findings may have far-reaching effects as heart disease is the most common cause of adult death in the world.
