The Type Seven in Recovery

A type Seven in the Enneagram, embarking on addiction recovery, should heed some key advice. First, resist gluttony or the desire to fill emotional illness with pleasures like food or sex. Next, notice how anticipation disrupts the ability to live in the moment and develop a quiet, reliable mind, less affected by unsatisfying impulsivity. Successful recovery will also depend on acquiring disciplined focus, which will be aided by grounding spiritual practices and work with a sponsor. A Seven tends to resist or try to skip step 4, “making a thorough inventory of your addictive past.” Step 4 is vital and must be embraced. Finally, a Seven must become mindful of sadness, motivators, and the manner in which he or she communicates with others to recover well.
