It comes as no surprise that stress hormones can worsen existing depression, or make a future episode much more possible. No need to lose hope, though. There are things you can do to navigate the stress in your life:
- Evaluate your circumstances – relationships, work, habits and routines – and decide which are good and which might need to change.
- Set attainable goals and take small, but steady, steps to reach them.
- Redirect your attention to the feelings and sensations you’re experiencing right now.
- Exercise and be mindful, perhaps through guided meditation.
- Make a very radical change with something in your life, if your depression does not improve.
