Tools and Tips for Navigating Stress when You’re Depressed

It comes as no surprise that stress hormones can worsen existing depression, or make a future episode much more possible. No need to lose hope, though. There are things you can do to navigate the stress in your life:

  1. Evaluate your circumstances – relationships, work, habits and routines – and decide which are good and which might need to change.
  2. Set attainable goals and take small, but steady, steps to reach them.
  3. Redirect your attention to the feelings and sensations you’re experiencing right now.
  4. Exercise and be mindful, perhaps through guided meditation.
  5. Make a very radical change with something in your life, if your depression does not improve.
