What is “Uncertain threat”? And how is it linked to different kinds of anxiety disorders?

Anticipatory Anxiety

Also called “anticipatory anxiety,” this problem involves not knowing for sure if there is a threat or not. Thus, these individuals worry about this problem until an answer resolves it. For example, worrying that might they have a panic attack while flying. Those who have social anxiety disorders or specific phobias are more likely to have anticipatory anxiety.

Knowing this phenomenon occurs can help both patients and clinicians with appropriate treatment.
