Vitamins for Children

Should children take vitamins? Yes. Many children are not eating enough fruits and vegetables. However, be careful not to use vitamins as a substitute for whole, fresh foods and produce. Teach children about healthy foods. Show them how to prepare them and discourage fast food, processed food, sugar, or caffeine.

Regarding vitamins, a complete antioxidant formula as well as multiminerals is best.

Russell Greenfield, M.D., co-author of "Healthy Child, Whole Child," recommends waiting until children are at least four years old before giving children vitamin or mineral supplements.
