Most people believe that getting enough calcium ensures strong bones and teeth. Dr. Weil contends that strong bones develop by making sure we all have enough vitamin D and exercise in our daily routines. Another wide-spread belief is that saturated fats clog arteries in much the same way as grease clogs pipes. Dr. Weil maintains that the metabolism of the human body is complex and there’s more contributing to heart disease than eating red meat and butter. Finally, most of us think that exposing ourselves to sunlight will cause skin cancer. Actually, avoiding the sun and slathering ourselves with sunscreen has created more problems from a vitamin D deficiency than sun exposure would cause.
