In a study investigating the impact of sex and marital connection, the University of Chicago’s Center on Demography and Economics of Aging in Illinois found that a lack of sex during periods of illness reduced marital satisfaction significantly. When partners push through their discomfort to connect sexually, satisfaction improves markedly as do feelings of fulfillment and happiness with their union. To get the most out of sex during challenging times, be patient with each other, be creative, consider alternative types of sexual activity, and seek the advice of a doctor if necessary.
