Yoga for Your Mind

Hatha yoga and its impact on the thinking skills of senior citizens was the focus of a recent eight-week study conducted by researchers at the University of Illinois. Participants included 108 adults between the ages of 55 and 79. One half took three yoga classes per week and the other completed stretching and toning exercises three days a week. According to researcher and professor Edward McAuley, Researchers found that the yoga group had improved in tests of all “mental functions (that) are relevant to our everyday functioning.” The seniors in the stretching and toning exercise group did experience the same results.
