Green Tea May Boost Learning and Memory

Tea time may become more important as we grow older than just having a relaxing moment alone or with a friend or two. Recent studies from China indicate that green tea contains antioxidants which help promote the growth of neural progenitor cells. New cells created in the hippocampus appear to help improve memory and learning and also to combat degenerative diseases. These benefits are in addition to the protection green tea is known to provide against cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and Alzheimer’s disease. Mice used in this study were better at spatial learning as well as incurring less memory loss.
