How You Language Contributes to Stigmas Behind Mental Health

You may not realize it, but what words you choose to say can actually contribute to the stigmas behind mental health issues.

For example, have you ever referred to someone as “crazy?”  Have you joked about getting “depressed” when the weather outside is gloomy?  Using psychological terms is common in our society, yet these terms are meant to define real mental health problems, not inconveniences or things that arise in daily life.  By being aware of your language you can help change mental health stigma.
