Lowering weight lowers levels of inflammation in the body, and for some women, losing even 5% might do the trick. Inflammation is linked to heart disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. Obesity drives inflammation and is a risk factor for several types of cancer. Research has shown that weight loss combined with regular exercise results in a drop of almost 42% in C-reactive protein, an inflammation marker. It also dropped interleukin-6 by 24%. Interleukin-6 is a protein that regulates immune function. These markers also fell in women who lost weight but didn’t exercise.
